JCO killed in firing inside the military camp in Samba
A junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of the Indian army has been killed in a ‘mysterious’ firing incident inside an army camp in the Samba district of Jammu division. The firing incident was reported late Tuesday night.
According to preliminary reports, gunshots were reportedly heard at Bari Brahmana camp, and a junior Commissioned Officer on duty was found critically injured. He was rushed to a nearby medical facility, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. The deceased JCO has been identified as Subedar Surjeet Singh, a resident of Reasi district.
In Jammu, the Defence PRO in a brief statement said, “A JCO of an Army unit in Samba sustained a gunshot wound while on duty in Jammu and, unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries in the line of duty. At this stage, the terror angle has been ruled out.”
Following the incident, an investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances under which the firing incident was reported inside a military camp, Defence PRO added.
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir police have also launched an investigation into the case. The policemen are also probing the possible angle of a fratricide behind the firing incident inside a military camp, as one of the jawans, possibly involved in the firing, was found missing from the military camp. The Army’s Rising Star Corps identified the jawan as Subedar Surjeet Singh and paid rich tributes to him. “Rising Star Corps pays solemn tribute to braveheart Subedar Surjeet Singh, who made the supreme sacrifice while on operational duty in Jammu. The Indian Army stands firmly with the bereaved family in this hour of grief and assures unwavering support,” it said in a post on X.
