Isha Ambani’s Met Gala 2026 Look Celebrates Indian Craft with Gold Saree, Gajra and Mango Art

At the Met Gala 2026, Isha Ambani made a striking statement by blending Indian heritage, craftsmanship, and contemporary art in a distinctive couture ensemble.
Dressed in a custom creation by Gaurav Gupta, Ambani wore a saree-inspired outfit crafted with gold-woven textiles and intricate detailing. The ensemble featured hand-painted motifs inspired by traditional Pichwai art and was complemented by a sculptural cape, reflecting Gupta’s signature design aesthetic.
The garment was developed using textiles created by artisans associated with Swadesh, highlighting India’s rich handloom traditions. The look strongly emphasised indigenous craftsmanship, blending it seamlessly with modern couture elements.
A key highlight of the outfit was the blouse, which incorporated heirloom jewellery pieces from the Ambani family collection. It featured an elaborate structure embedded with diamonds, emeralds, polki, and kundan work, transforming it into a fusion of heritage jewellery and high fashion. The back of the blouse also showcased a historic sarpech believed to be linked to the Nizam’s jewellery collection.
Speaking to Vogue on the red carpet, Ambani shared that parts of the jewellery used in the ensemble belonged to her mother, Nita Ambani, adding a personal and familial dimension to the look.
Beyond fashion, Ambani incorporated a unique artistic element by carrying a sculptural mango piece created by Subodh Gupta. The artwork, placed in a crocheted bag, symbolised Indian cultural motifs while aligning with the event’s theme celebrating the intersection of fashion and art.
Her look also featured a modern reinterpretation of the traditional gajra. Designed by Sourabh Gupta, the accessory used materials such as paper, copper, and brass, blending traditional inspiration with contemporary artistry.
Ahead of the main event in New York, Ambani had already showcased an India-inspired aesthetic at a pre-event gathering, wearing an outfit that represented regional crafts across the country.
Over the years, Isha Ambani has consistently used global platforms like the Met Gala to promote Indian designers. She previously wore creations by Rahul Mishra and Anamika Khanna, reinforcing her focus on showcasing India’s design heritage on the international stage.
Her 2026 appearance continued that trajectory, placing Indian textiles, craftsmanship, and contemporary art at the centre of global fashion conversation.a
