Indian hotel employee in US sentenced for sex trafficking case involving minor

A 27-year-old Indian national has been sentenced to 10 years in prison in the United States after being convicted in a sex trafficking-related case involving a minor at a hotel in Nebraska.
The accused, identified as Kavankumar Patel from Gujarat, was working at the AmericInn hotel in Omaha when the incident occurred. According to US authorities, he was part of a wider trafficking network that exploited underage girls for commercial sex.
Investigators said the case came to light after police responded to an unrelated theft report in January 2025, which eventually uncovered evidence of a trafficking operation involving minors aged 15 and 16.
Authorities stated that traffickers had forced the victims into exploitative conditions, instructing them to engage in sexual acts with hotel staff in exchange for being allowed to stay at the premises. Several hotel employees were later found to have participated in or facilitated the abuse.
The US Attorney’s Office in Nebraska said Patel admitted to using hotel funds to pay traffickers for access to one of the minors. He was later convicted and sentenced, and is expected to face deportation after completing his prison term.
Other individuals, including traffickers and additional hotel employees, have also been charged as part of the broader investigation conducted by the Homeland Security Task Force and local law enforcement agencies.
Officials described the case as a deeply disturbing example of organized exploitation, stating that the victims were subjected to severe coercion, deprivation of basic needs, and ongoing abuse.
