102 Karnataka taluks likely to be declared drought-hit after Cabinet review
The Karnataka government will declare 102 taluks drought-hit after reviewing assessment reports at its next Cabinet meeting, Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara said on Wednesday, August 26.
Speaking to reporters, Parameshwara said a comprehensive assessment of the drought situation was underway and reports from all 102 taluks had been received.
"We will discuss the reports at the next Cabinet meeting and declare the taluks drought-hit. The declaration will be made in accordance with the criteria prescribed by the Centre. We will review the drought situation every week," he said.
Parameshwara said the state was facing a shortage of drinking water and farmers had suffered crop losses.
He also criticised the BJP for its handling of the issue, saying the Opposition had formed teams to assess the drought situation but had neither raised the matter in the Assembly nor submitted any report or representation to the chief minister or him.
"There is a drinking water shortage in the state, and farmers have suffered crop losses. The Opposition should discuss these issues and offer suggestions. Instead, they indulged only in politics in the House during the monsoon session of the legislature," he alleged.
