Indian crew member killed, several injured in Strait of Hormuz tanker strike

An Indian crew member was killed and several others were injured after two UAE-flagged oil tankers were struck by Iranian cruise missiles in the Strait of Hormuz, marking a major escalation in tensions in the Gulf region.
The attack took place in Omani territorial waters, where both vessels caught fire after being hit. Emergency teams managed to control the blaze, but one Indian sailor lost his life while several others suffered injuries, some of them seriously.
The UAE strongly condemned the strike, calling it a serious violation of international law and warning that it reserves the right to respond. Iran claimed responsibility for the attack, saying the vessels had ignored warnings issued by its forces before entering the strategic waterway.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world's busiest oil shipping routes, making any disruption a major concern for global energy markets.
India is closely monitoring the situation following the death of its citizen. The incident comes amid rising military tensions between Iran and the United States, with fears growing that continued attacks on commercial shipping could further destabilise the region and disrupt global trade.
