Aaditya Thackeray distances himself from Disha Salian case, says ‘Why should I respond?’
Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray on Thursday said he had nothing to do with the Disha Salian death case and questioned why he should comment on the Bombay High Court's decision to order a CBI probe into the matter.
“It is something I have nothing to do with, and have not even thought about. Why should I even respond to this?” Thackeray, a former Maharashtra minister, said in response to a reporter's question.
The Bombay High Court on Wednesday directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe Salian's death and criticised Mumbai Police for failing to register an FIR even after nearly six years. The court observed that the police investigation raised “more questions than answers”.
Salian, who had briefly worked as manager of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, died on June 8, 2020, after falling from the 12th floor of a residential building in Mumbai's Malad area. Mumbai Police had registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) in the case.
The case has remained politically contentious, with BJP minister Nitesh Rane and party MP Narayan Rane having previously sought to link Thackeray to Salian's death.
The High Court's order came on a plea filed by Salian's father, Satish Salian, who had sought a fresh investigation into her death. The court directed the CBI to register an FIR and conduct the probe in accordance with law.
Thackeray, however, said he saw no reason to comment on the development, reiterating that he had no connection with the case.
