India-US Interim Trade Deal Close, Says Piyush Goyal

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has said that an interim trade agreement between India and the United States is close, signaling progress in ongoing bilateral economic negotiations.
The update was shared during a closed-door interaction organised by the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) in collaboration with the Consulate General of India in New York, where Goyal met over 50 global business and industry leaders.
According to USISPF, the Minister provided an encouraging assessment of the ongoing trade talks and assured stakeholders that an interim agreement between India and the United States is nearing completion. The discussions are part of broader efforts to strengthen trade, investment, and supply-chain cooperation between the two countries.
Goyal highlighted India’s strong economic growth, policy reforms, and expanding opportunities for global investors. He reiterated that investor confidence, regulatory stability, and long-term business predictability remain key priorities for the Indian government.
The Minister also engaged with senior global business leaders, including executives from Morgan Stanley, Warburg Pincus, Amneal Pharmaceuticals, and Mastercard, focusing on strengthening financial investments, digital commerce, pharmaceuticals, and innovation ecosystems.
Separately, a US delegation is expected to visit India from June 1 to June 4 to further refine details of the interim trade pact and advance discussions under a broader bilateral trade framework covering market access, customs facilitation, and non-tariff barriers.
The development comes as India and the US continue efforts to deepen economic ties and expand cooperation across sectors including technology, finance, and manufacturing.
