India opens Oman trade import window
The Government on Monday invited applications for the allocation of 2026-27 import quotas for products like dates, marble, and aluminium ingots under the duty concession provisions of the India-Oman free trade agreement.
Under the comprehensive economic partnership agreement (CEPA), India has granted quota-based tariff concessions to certain Omani goods such as dates, marble, copper weld wire, aluminium ingots, billets and wires, and certain petrochemical products, such as ethylene glycol, linear alkylbenzenes, and low-density polyethene.
The pact came into force from June 1.
“New applications for TRQ (tariff rate quota) under India-Oman Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) for FY2026-27 are invited from August 4, 2026, up to August 19, 2026,” the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in a public notice.
The import duty on dates is 30 per cent, and it will be eliminated for up to 2,000 tonnes of dates annually.
Similarly, on marble and travertine blocks, the current duty is 40 per cent, but under the pact, a 25 per cent tariff will apply to imports priced at a minimum of USD 150 per metric tonne, subject to an annual import quota of 100 kilotonnes (one lakh tonnes).
Similarly, India is providing tariff concessions for Ingots (Aluminium, unwrought, not alloyed) - 30,434.909 tonnes; Ingots (Aluminium alloys, unwrought) - 81.296 tonnes; and Aluminium wire (not alloyed) - cross-sectional dimension exceeds 7 mm - 199.1 tonnes.
