CJP to hold protest in Rajasthan over alleged detention, assault of activists by police

The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) on Monday announced plans to organise a large-scale protest in Rajasthan within the next 10 days, alleging that police had detained and assaulted student activists and social workers and placed some of them under house arrest.
At a press conference in Jaipur, CJP spokesperson Deepak Baliyan alleged that Rajasthan Police had stopped party workers from travelling to Delhi to participate in protests and harassed their family members.
Baliyan said he was placed under house arrest for four days in the Kathumar area of Alwar district, with police personnel from four police stations deployed outside his residence.
CJP member Gigraj Jorli alleged that police detained him in his vehicle on October 10 while he was travelling to Delhi to take part in a protest. He also claimed that his associate Surendra had been held in illegal detention.
Another party member, Shashikant, alleged that he and his associate Suraj Meena were detained and assaulted at Jaipur's Gandhi Nagar Police Station on October 8. He further claimed that police seized their mobile phones and did not allow them to seek legal assistance.
The CJP urged civil society organisations, student groups and other social organisations to participate in the proposed protest. (with inputs from PTI)
