HM Amit Shah launches Delhi’s mission to plant 70 lakh saplings Uunder green drive

Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched Delhi’s ambitious Mission 70 Lakh Plantation Drive, aimed at increasing the city’s green cover and promoting environmental conservation under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign.
Shah inaugurated the mega plantation campaign by planting a sapling in the Central Ridge area of Delhi. The initiative targets the plantation of 70 lakh saplings across the national capital through the participation of government agencies, institutions and citizens.
The campaign is designed to encourage public involvement in creating a greener and healthier Delhi. Citizens, schools, residential groups and organisations have been invited to participate in the plantation drive through dedicated registration platforms and plantation activities across different locations.

The drive is part of Delhi’s wider efforts to improve urban greenery, tackle pollution levels and strengthen ecological balance in the national capital. Several agencies, including forest and civic bodies, are involved in implementing the plantation programme across the city.
Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and other senior leaders were present during the launch event. The programme also focuses on planting native tree species to support biodiversity and long-term environmental sustainability.
Officials said the initiative aims to transform tree plantation into a mass movement, with citizens playing an active role in making Delhi cleaner, greener and more sustainable.
