Gujarat GST squad seizes gold, silver, precious stones worth Rs 4.25 crore

In one of its largest enforcement actions to date, Gujarat’s State GST Department has seized precious metals and gemstones valued at approximately Rs 4.25 crore during an inspection of a private passenger bus.
Officials from the department’s Mobile Squad intercepted the vehicle after receiving intelligence inputs regarding the transportation of high-value goods. During the inspection, authorities recovered around 120 kilograms of silver, nearly 700 grams of gold and approximately three kilograms of precious stones. Preliminary findings indicated that the consignment was being transported without the mandatory supporting documents required under tax regulations. Officials sought invoices and other records related to the shipment but reportedly did not receive satisfactory documentation.
The entire consignment has been confiscated pending further investigation. Authorities are examining the origin and intended destination of the goods while also exploring possible tax evasion and compliance violations. Sources indicated that the valuables were allegedly being transported from another state before being intercepted in Ahmedabad.
Tax officials stated that enforcement drives against illegal transportation of goods and tax-related violations will continue in the coming months.
The seizure has drawn significant attention within business circles due to the scale of the operation and the value of the recovered items.
