IAS officer detained in KPSC recruitment scam
CID officials have detained IAS officer Gyanendra Kumar Gangwar in connection with alleged irregularities in the KPSC recruitment examination for veterinary officers, official sources said on Sunday, Aug 30.
The development came after Gangwar was questioned by CID officials on Friday and Saturday, having appeared before the investigating officer in response to a notice.
Gangwar was being questioned as he served as Controller of Examinations at the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) from February 2024 to March 2026, official sources said.
He was taken into custody for allegedly failing to cooperate with the investigation, they said.
Gangwar, a 2016-batch IAS officer, is currently Director of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) in the Department of Industries and Commerce.
The CID is probing alleged irregularities in the recruitment examination, including the handling of examination records and OMR sheets, and the role of officials and others involved.
The agency is expected to produce Gangwar before the jurisdictional court and seek his custody for further questioning, sources said.
The officer's whereabouts had triggered controversy recently following searches by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the alleged KPSC irregularities.
State Home Minister Priyank Kharge had said Gangwar told him he had gone to his native place in Uttar Pradesh, citing a family emergency involving his father's health.
The ED subsequently conducted searches at premises belonging to the officer.
The CID and ED are carrying out separate investigations into the KPSC-related irregularities, officials said.
