GFN to boost investments in low-carbon buildings

As India continues to witness rapid urban growth, the demand for environmentally sustainable and energy-efficient buildings is becoming increasingly significant.
With more than half of the country’s projected infrastructure for 2050 yet to be constructed, experts believe that integrating climate-resilient and low-carbon construction practices into major housing programmes such as the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) offers a crucial opportunity to promote sustainable development.
Although the Government has introduced several policy measures, including the India Cooling Action Plan (ICAP) and the Energy Conservation and Sustainable Building Code (ECSBC), inadequate access to finance remains one of the biggest obstacles to scaling up green building projects across the country.
To bridge this financing gap, the Green Finance Network (GFN) has been launched as a collaborative platform aimed at strengthening the ecosystem for sustainable construction. The initiative brings together financial institutions, real estate developers, technology providers, policymakers and technical experts to facilitate investments in low-carbon buildings.
