Gajraj Corps holds avalanche rescue drills in Arunachal

In a significant move to enhance operational preparedness along the nation’s frontiers, troops of the Gajraj Corps successfully conducted specialised avalanche safety and rescue drills in the remote regions of Arunachal Pradesh. The intensive training, held across the rugged expanses of the Eastern Himalayas, was carried out in collaboration with expert trainers from the Tiranga Mountain Rescue (TMR) team.
The programme was conducted at altitudes exceeding 14,000 feet, focusing on the complexities of life-saving operations in extreme high-altitude environments. The curriculum included comprehensive modules on avalanche risk assessment, rapid response protocols, casualty location and extraction techniques, and snow survival strategies. Crucially, the drills also tested the troops’ ability to maintain effective decision-making under severe weather and punishing terrain conditions.
According to a press brief, the immersive exercises simulated real-world high-altitude emergencies, enabling personnel to sharpen their crisis response efficiency. Great emphasis was placed on coordinated team manoeuvres and the proficient use of specialised rescue equipment to ensure operational sustainability in snow-bound and avalanche-prone sectors. This joint initiative has significantly boosted the operational readiness of the Gajraj Corps, reinforcing its capability to conduct safe, swift, and sustained missions in some of the most formidable terrains along the Line of Actual Control. The training ensures that the “Sentinels of the East” remain prepared to mitigate natural hazards while maintaining their strategic vigil.
