TN Police constitute Internal Vigilance Cells across all districts, commissionerates

The Tamil Nadu Police have constituted Internal Vigilance Cells in all districts and commissionerates to prevent, monitor and enquire into allegations of corruption, misconduct, abuse of position and other unethical practices by police personnel and officers, an official release said.
The cells have been set up under the directions of Director General of Police/Head of Police Force Dr. Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, IPS, the release said.
People can now report anonymously on abuse of authority by police personnel through the cells, with dedicated district- and city-wise phone and WhatsApp numbers released for the purpose.
The department assured that the identity of complainants and witnesses will be kept strictly confidential, and that no complainant shall be subjected to any form of harassment, intimidation or retaliation for filing a complaint.
The authorities have assured impartial, timely inquiries into complaints, monitored by senior officers.
The cells will be monitored on a regular basis by Superintendents of Police, Deputy Inspectors General, Inspectors General, Commissioners of Police, Additional Directors General and the Director General of Police, the release added.
