Former Haryana minister Jaswinder Sandhu’s son found dead at Punjab farmhouse

Gaganjot Sandhu, son of former Haryana agriculture minister Jaswinder Singh Sandhu, allegedly died by suicide after shooting himself with his licensed weapon at a farmhouse in Punjab’s Rupnagar district, police said on Saturday.

The incident took place on Friday at a farmhouse in Kakot village. Gaganjot, 48, had reportedly arrived at the property and was alone when he allegedly shot himself.

Following information about the incident, a police team from the Sadar police station reached the spot. Station House Officer Sunny Khanna said the circumstances surrounding the death were being investigated and that further details would emerge after a thorough inquiry.

Gaganjot’s body was taken to Rupnagar Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

He had previously served as the sarpanch of Gumthala Garhu village in Haryana’s Kurukshetra district.

His father, Jaswinder Singh Sandhu, was a four-time MLA from Pehowa and served as agriculture minister in the O P Chautala-led Haryana government. He died in 2019.
