First made-in-India C-295 aircraft rolled out from Vadodara Tata-Airbus facility

India has achieved a major milestone in its defence manufacturing journey as the first domestically produced C-295 military transport aircraft has been assembled at the Tata-Airbus facility in Vadodara, Gujarat.
The development marks the first time a private sector company in India has manufactured a complete military aircraft within the country.
The aircraft has been produced at the Tata-Airbus Final Assembly Line (FAL) located in Harni, Vadodara, established under a joint venture between Tata Advanced Systems Limited and Airbus. The plant was inaugurated on October 28, 2024, by Narendra Modi and Pedro Sánchez.
According to information related to the project, India has signed an agreement for 56 C-295 transport aircraft. Of these, 16 aircraft are being supplied directly from Spain in fly-away condition, while the remaining 40 are planned to be manufactured in India under the “Make in India” initiative at the Vadodara facility.
The Harni-based plant has been developed as a comprehensive aerospace manufacturing centre, handling aircraft assembly, testing, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) operations. Officials view the rollout of the first aircraft as a significant boost to India’s efforts toward self-reliance in defence production.
