Every reading room, computer centre step towards Viksit Bharat: Speaker

Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta on Sunday inaugurated the Savitri Devi Goyal Institute of Computer Education and a Reading Room in Nangloi. The Speaker said that every reading room and computer centre is a step towards building a Viksit Bharat.
The facility has been set up at Raghunath Dharamshala by Seva Bharati to provide computer education and study space to children and youth, especially from economically weaker sections. The centre has been equipped with 15 computers and a dedicated reading room to support students preparing for academic and competitive examinations.
Addressing the gathering, Gupta said computer education is no longer a luxury but an essential requirement in the digital age. “True literacy today must include digital literacy,” he said, adding that almost every profession and Government service now requires basic computer knowledge. He said the inauguration was not merely about opening a building but about creating new opportunities for talented youth who often fall behind due to a lack of resources. Offering computer education at a nominal cost within the community will benefit students who cannot afford expensive private institutes, he added.
Gupta linked the initiative to the larger national vision, saying India is witnessing a digital revolution comparable to the industrial revolution of earlier times. He referred to initiatives such as Digital India and the growing role of Artificial Intelligence, stating that these developments are strengthening India’s position as a leading global economy.
Shri Vishal, Prant Pracharak of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, who was present at the event, said the reading room would help shape dreams, discipline and determination among young minds. He appreciated the efforts of Seva Bharati in establishing the institute and expressed confidence that it would play a significant role in empowering students from economically weaker backgrounds. He said by providing computer education and study facilities at a nominal cost, the centre would open new avenues for deserving students and help them pursue academic and professional goals with confidence.
Recalling his own student days, Gupta said he often searched for quiet places to study and found libraries helpful for concentration. He mentioned studying at the Ratan Tata Library in Timarpur near the Delhi School of Economics. He said reading rooms are especially important for aspirants preparing for competitive exams such as the civil services.
The Speaker also praised Seva Bharati for its social service initiatives, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, when volunteers delivered rations, medicines and essential supplies to those in need for several months.
Calling the centre a community initiative, Gupta urged residents to contribute by donating books, volunteering time or providing financial support. He expressed hope that similar centres would be established in other areas.
