DU VC calls for lifelong upskilling

Delhi University (DU) Vice Chancellor Professor Yogesh Singh on Wednesday highlighted that mere competency is no longer sufficient in an era marked by fast-changing technologies and underscored the need for lifelong upskilling through technology-enabled learning.
Making this point after launching a dedicated DU-EICTA learning portal (https://www.eicta.iitk.ac.in/du), he emphasised the critical importance of continuous, technology-enabled learning in the rapidly evolving 21st-century academic ecosystem, particularly in the field of computer science.
He highlighted that mere competency is no longer sufficient in an era marked by fast-changing technologies and underscored the need for lifelong upskilling through platforms such as the newly launched portal.
Professor Singh also stressed that universities must move beyond being passive consumers of technology and instead become hubs of innovation, research, and entrepreneurship.
Encouraging a strong startup culture among both faculty and students, he noted that fostering innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and technology-driven startups within universities is essential for national development and for realising India’s vision of becoming a developed economy.
He reiterated that technology-enabled education and innovation-led growth are no longer optional but fundamental to the future of higher education and the country’s economic progress. The portal is a tie-up between the University of Delhi and the Electronics and ICT Academy (EICTA).
The EICTA Consortium will support the University of Delhi in offering subsidised Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs); high-quality online courses for faculty members and students in both credit and non-credit categories; scholarship and discount-based support for underprivileged learners; and customised training programmes aimed at strengthening technology-driven skill development across the University.
