Kolkata Police questions Derek O’Brien for second time in billboard removal case

TMC Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien appeared before Kolkata Police on Tuesday for the second time in connection with a scuffle involving officials and private security guards at a Trinamool Congress office over the removal of a billboard carrying party signage.

O’Brien reached Shakespeare Sarani Police Station at around 11.10 am and was questioned about various aspects of the August 27 incident, according to a senior police officer.

Kolkata Police registered a suo motu case against TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, O’Brien, Banerjee’s personal aide Sumit Roy and other party leaders. An official from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation’s advertising department also filed a separate complaint.

At least 14 people have been arrested in connection with the scuffle at Banerjee’s Camac Street office. Police had previously questioned O’Brien and Roy as part of the investigation, while Banerjee appeared before the police on September 1.
