Delhi to be cultural capital of country: Kapil Mishra

Delhi Art, Culture & Languages Minister Kapil Mishra on Friday said restoring the pride of the national Capital’s original culture is a priority for the Government. “Folk culture and devotional events in Delhi are now being organised with full grandeur. Delhi is steadily moving towards becoming the cultural capital of the country,” Mishra said, inaugurating the three-day event ‘Bhakti Sangeet’ organised by Sahitya Kala Parishad.
The celebration of faith and expression began on Friday evening at Central Park, Connaught Place, with a devotional musical performance by renowned singer Anuradha Paudwal.
Mishra said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi envisions making Delhi a major centre for live events and cultural programmes. In this direction, under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and with the support and blessings of the people of Delhi, the city’s cultural landscape has witnessed a significant transformation over the past year.
The Delhi Government is continuously working to give a new identity to the capital’s art, culture and spiritual traditions, he added.
The Cabinet Minister further stated that recently, Bhajan Clubbing programmes were organised in various colleges of Delhi University, which received an excellent response from the youth. A grand devotional programme dedicated to Lord Somnath is also planned to be organised soon at Connaught Place, he mentioned. Mishra also highlighted that several grand religious and cultural programmes have been organised in Delhi.
Earlier, around 170 Kanwar camps used to be set up, but this time, after the Government announced direct assistance, nearly 400 Kanwar camps were established, providing great convenience to devotees.
He also mentioned that the Teej Mahotsav was organised on a large scale this year, with nearly 50,000 women participating. Similarly, the historic celebration of Chhath Puja in Delhi was widely appreciated across the country and abroad.
The Cabinet Minister said that on the occasion of Diwali, Kartavya Path was illuminated with nearly 1.5 lakh earthen lamps. A grand drone show was also organised at India Gate. This year, it has been decided that the drone show during Diwali will be organised for three days, he said through a Press statement.
Mishra further announced that a grand cultural programme will also be organised at the Red Fort later this month, for which Delhiites will be invited. He added that the Delhi Government will continue to strengthen culture, tradition and faith through such programmes in the future.
During the programme, Bhairav Singh Chauhan and Agnihotri Bandhu also presented devotional musical performances.
On the occasion, he congratulated the artists and the entire team for successfully organising the event and expressed gratitude to all the devotees present, added the Press release.
