Telangana promises quick fix of 22-A land registration mess; CM, minister vow resolution by month-end

The Telangana government has promised to resolve the problems caused by the inclusion of properties in the prohibited list under Section 22-A of the Registration Act, with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy both saying the issue will be fixed soon.
Revenue Minister Ponguleti said a committee of officials has been constituted to examine lands on the prohibited list, and the issue would be resolved by the end of this month. He apologised for the inconvenience caused to property owners.
The minister said registrations of five properties, earlier included in the prohibited list, were completed on Monday. He said he would personally visit sub-registrar offices in the Greater Hyderabad limits to review the situation, and urged people not to worry over the list.
Chief Minister Reddy said collectors will fix the 22-A mess, and assured owners of private land that they will not face any inconvenience. The Hindu reported that the CM allayed apprehensions on Section 22A lands and asserted that the government will protect the rights of owners.
Reports said the government has set a 15-day deadline to clear prohibited land cases, and that the CM promised to resolve genuine 22-A land issues within two days.
The controversy has drawn political attacks. BRS leader T Harish Rao demanded the minister's resignation, while the BJP sought a Lokayukta probe into the land row.
Responding to the attacks, Ponguleti said he was taking responsibility for the issue because he heads the department, and would ensure it is resolved. He challenged BJP leader Alleti Maheshwar Reddy to produce evidence for his allegations.
Properties in Hyderabad, including in Jubilee Hills, have been hit by the prohibited list, the Times of India reported.
