Delhi schools, Mayor’s office receive bomb threats

Multiple schools across Delhi received bomb threat emails on Monday morning. The incident prompted Delhi Police, bomb disposal squads, dog squads, and Delhi Fire Services to rush to campuses, evacuate students and staff, and conduct anti-sabotage searches, while the Mayor’s Office simultaneously received its eighth bomb threat, sent via anonymous email at 9:07 am, warning of an explosion at 2:11 pm. Police said nothing suspicious was found during searches at any of the affected school premises.

Investigations have been initiated to trace the origin of the threat emails. At Sardar Patel Vidyalaya, school authorities sent parents an official message at 10:25 am stating: “Dear parents, the school has received a security threat. All students have been evacuated safely. The police have been informed and are doing the needful. Once the school is declared safe by the police, classes will resume.”

Emergency response teams followed standard operating procedure across all affected campuses, securing the premises, evacuating students and staff, and conducting detailed searches of classrooms, administrative blocks, and surrounding areas. Police urged parents and the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information on social media.

The Mayor’s Office threat arrived via anonymous email at 9:07 am, stating that a bomb would explode at 2:11 pm. The office immediately alerted security agencies and Delhi Police, who conducted a comprehensive search operation across the premises, inspecting every sensitive area including entry and exit points and other critical locations. Nothing suspicious was found.

Significantly, Monday’s threat was not the first. The Mayor’s Office has now received bomb threats on eight separate occasions. Following the previous seven threats, the Mayor’s Office had formally written to the Delhi Police Commissioner requesting a detailed investigation to identify those responsible and ensure strict legal action. Despite that formal request, the threats have continued, and the perpetrators remain unidentified.

The Mayor’s Office said on Monday that repeated threats targeting public institutions and offices associated with constitutional authorities are a matter of serious concern, and that those responsible must be identified at the earliest and dealt with firmly under law.

Delhi has seen a wave of bomb threat emails targeting schools, government buildings, and public institutions over the past year. In February 2026, the Delhi Assembly, the Delhi Secretariat, Delhi Army Public School, and the Red Fort received threat emails in a single day, all of which were declared hoaxes after searches. In July 2025, over 45 schools received threats in a single week. In February 2026, 15 schools received threats in a single day with emails signed in the name of the Khalistan National Army.

The pattern is consistent: anonymous emails sent to multiple institutions simultaneously, timed to cause maximum disruption during school and office hours, resulting in evacuations, police mobilisation, and public anxiety, followed by nothing being found. The perpetrators have not been publicly identified or prosecuted in any of the previous waves despite repeated complaints and investigations.

For parents, school administrations, and public office holders, Monday’s incidents are another day in a pattern that has become grimly routine in Delhi, where bomb threat hoaxes have disrupted thousands of students’ school days and consumed enormous police and emergency response resources without, so far, leading to successful prosecution of those responsible.
