Delhi HC upholds PCI decision to exclude Editors Guild of India from its fold

The Delhi High Court on Friday dismissed a plea filed by the Editors Guild of India challenging its exclusion from the list of “associations of persons” notified by the Press Council of India (PCI) for the constitution of the 15th Press Council. A Bench of Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela held that the Editors Guild’s petition suffered from inordinate delay and lacked merit.
“For the reasons aforesaid, we do not find any good ground to interfere in the report/recommendation of the Scrutiny Committee dated September 10, 2024, as also the notification dated October 28, 2024, issued by the Council so far as the same relate to the petitioner,” the Court said.
