INDIA bloc plans rallies against ECI, SIR, CEC

The Congress led INDIA bloc will hold a nationwide Save Democracy campaign beginning on October 2, Gandhi Jayanti, over concerns related to the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The Opposition alliance, comprising around 19 parties, has planned rallies, demonstrations and protests across districts from October 2 to October 8. According to the announced programme, Opposition MPs will march on October 6 towards the ECI headquarters in New Delhi.
The alliance has also indicated plans for larger rallies in the coming months.
Meanwhile, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) will stage a protest in Mumbai on October 2, seeking the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. The CJP announced the protest after a report emerged about alleged differences within the ECI.
The Congress said the chorus of voices against the “capture” of the electoral system is getting louder and asserted that citizens will no longer tolerate “vote chori” in any form. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah, and the CEC were collectively “destroying democracy” through the SIR exercise and accused them of committing “treason”. He reiterated his demand that Kumar resign and become an “approver”, and called for an investigation against Modi and Shah.
