Cops, Hindu groups scuffle outside Kolkata’s Bangladesh Deputy High Commission

Protests erupted outside the Bangladesh deputy in Kolkata, with a number of pro-Hindu groups staging protests against the persecution of minorities and the lynching of Dipu Das, a Hindu youth, at Mymensingh in the neighbouring country.
Supporters of Hindu Jagran Manch, Vishu Hindu Parishad and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad scuffled with the police after they were resisted from proceeding towards the Bangladesh diplomat’s office at Park Circus area.
Some journalists, too, were injured in the shuffle, sources said. As protesters fought a pitched battle with the police, needing a mild lathicharge they raised anti-Bangladesh Government slogans demanding action against perpetrators of violence against Hindus in that country.
“There were protests by some political groups needing mild force, big things were soon brought under control,” a police official said. More than a dozen people were arrested in the melee, he said.
Tuesday’s protests take place a day after Bengal Opposition Leader Suvendu Adhikari led a procession on Monday towards the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission, demanding action against the perpetrators of violence on Hindus in that country, failing which he threatened to come back with bigger rallies.
