Chief Minister Gupta inaugurates citizen lounge, learning centre

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday inaugurated a “Citizen Lounge-cum-New Age Learning Centre” at the New Delhi District Magistrate’s office complex. The facility is designed to give visitors a library, reading corner, modern waiting area, and clean restroom facilities, while also functioning over time as a hub for career counselling, competitive exam guidance, and skill development for young people.
During her visit, the Chief Minister inspected the Citizen Lounge, the library and reading corner, and the newly constructed toilet block.
She described the initiative as an example of good governance, saying citizens visiting administrative offices should have a dignified and comfortable experience, which she called a key priority of the Delhi government.
The Chief Minister said the facility represents more than a waiting lounge or library. She said children from nearby settlements and economically weaker sections would be able to study there and access facilities not ordinarily available to them.
The centre is planned to evolve into a knowledge and skill development space for students and young people. Books on law, administration, career guidance, and competitive examinations will be made available, along with computers to provide access to digital resources.
For visitors more broadly, the Citizen Lounge offers an air-conditioned waiting room, comfortable seating, newspapers, books, magazines, and a dedicated reading corner.
Senior citizens, women, children, and other visitors will be able to wait for their turn in a clean and organised environment rather than the typically crowded conditions associated with government office waiting areas.
At the conclusion of the programme, the Chief Minister congratulated the Divisional Commissioner, the district administration, the Elan Group, and all officials and partners associated with setting up the facility. She said such efforts would play an important role in making Delhi a more sensitive, inclusive, and citizen-centric capital.
The new lounge at the New Delhi DM office is intended to address that immediate gap while also serving the additional purpose of making educational and career resources accessible to people, particularly students and youth from nearby economically weaker localities, who may not otherwise have easy access to such material.
