"In a tragic incident, a boat carrying several Indian tourists has capsized near Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam. Exact details of the incident are being ascertained as search and rescue operations by local authorities are ongoing," the Indian Embassy said in a statement.
The Indian mission said it is closely coordinating with Vietnamese authorities and has established emergency control rooms at the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City and the Embassy of India in Hanoi to assist affected families and respond to queries.
Initial local reports indicated that several people had been rescued, while fears of casualties remained. However, officials have not yet released an official death toll or confirmed the total number of survivors.
