Bihar CM orders doctors to stop unnecessary referrals to major Hospitals
Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Tuesday directed government doctors across the state to stop the practice of “unnecessarily” referring patients to major hospitals.
Addressing a gathering during the launch of the “Sahyog” grievance redressal camp in Sonepur, Saran district, the Chief Minister said the new directive would come into effect from August 15 this year.
He warned that strict action would be taken against doctors at panchayat and district-level hospitals if normal cases are unnecessarily referred to larger hospitals in the state.
The Chief Minister said the Bihar government is strengthening healthcare infrastructure at local hospitals and that new hi-tech medical facilities at panchayat and district hospitals will become fully operational from August 15.
He added that only serious medical cases, subject to scrutiny, should be referred to bigger hospitals while ordinary patients must receive proper treatment at local healthcare centres.
During the event, the Chief Minister also launched the “Sahyog” initiative aimed at ensuring quick resolution of public grievances related to government departments. He said applications submitted through the Sahyog portal or helpline must be resolved within 30 days.
Samrat Choudhary further warned that officials failing to dispose of complaints within the stipulated timeline could face suspension, with district magistrates and superintendents of police tasked with monitoring the process.
