Tripura security forces couple arrested after viral cash video sparks probe

A couple serving in Tripura’s security forces has been arrested after a video showing large bundles of cash went viral on social media, triggering a police investigation into an alleged financial scam.
The accused have been identified as Menka Debbarma, a constable posted at Agartala East Police Station, and her husband Ajit Debbarma, a jawan of the 14th Battalion of the Tripura State Rifles.
The viral clip reportedly showed bundles of currency notes scattered on the floor, with the woman constable seen sitting beside the cash. The video quickly drew public attention and prompted authorities to launch an inquiry.
Following the circulation of the footage, police initiated an investigation into suspected financial irregularities linked to the couple in Dhalai district.
Both accused have now been detained, and further investigation is underway to determine the source of the cash and whether it is linked to any broader scam.
Officials have not yet confirmed the exact amount involved, but the case is being treated as a potential multi-crore financial irregularity.
