Bengal govt orders refund for Messi event tickets

The West Bengal government has announced that it will ensure refunds for fans who attended the controversial Lionel Messi event in Kolkata, which reportedly led to confusion and disappointment among spectators.
Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Nishith Pramanik said that the state has decided to reopen files related to what has been termed the “Messi case” and initiate a detailed review of the incident.
According to the minister, the government aims to address the grievances of fans who felt misled during the event at Salt Lake Stadium. He added that steps would be taken to identify those responsible and ensure accountability in the matter.
Officials have also instructed the event organiser to facilitate refunds for ticket holders. The Sports Department has assured support to ensure that affected spectators receive their money back.
The controversy stems from allegations of poor management and miscommunication during the high-profile football-related event, which saw significant public backlash.
The organiser of the GOAT Tour later claimed that administrative lapses contributed to the chaos, though authorities maintain that a full investigation is underway.
The state government has indicated that it will continue reviewing sports event management protocols to avoid similar incidents in the future.
