Autobiography of ex-CMD NHPC Abhay Singh released

A remarkable new book titled “A Karma Yogi - The Untold Realities of Life in India’s C-PSU” authored by Abhay Kumar Singh, former Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of NHPC Limited was formally released on 26 April 2026 in New Delhi in the presence of distinguished dignitaries.
The book is an autobiography of Abhay Kumar Singh and presents his journey from his early life to his tenure as CMD of NHPC.
It offers valuable insights into the functioning of Central Public Sector Undertakings and the challenges responsibilities and leadership experiences associated with life in India’s C-PSUs.
The book was released by P Uma Shankar Former Secretary, Ministry of Power; HK Paliwal, Principal Advisor to the Government of Arunachal Pradesh (GoAP) and Former Chief Secretary Govt of Arunachal Pradesh Kashi Singh Airy Ex-MLA and Founding Member of Uttarakhand Kranti Dal and Sudha Singh, wife of Abhay Kumar Singh.
Gajendra Singh Shekhawat Union Minister of Culture and Tourism joined the event virtually. Addressing the audience, he appreciated the book and praised the dedication of AK Singh towards his work and his significant contribution to the public sector and nation-building.
Speaking on the occasion, P Uma Shankar said that he had read the book and found it to be one of the most unique works providing deep insight into the functioning of Central PSUs and the challenges that officers confront during their careers.
He appreciated the practical experiences and leadership lessons documented in the book.
HK Paliwal recalled the period when he was Chief Secretary of Arunachal Pradesh and AK Singh was CMD of NHPC Limited.
He emphasised that a major credit for the massive capacity addition plan of NHPC in Arunachal Pradesh goes to AK Singh who strongly advocated for NHPC and successfully convinced both the Central Government and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh that only NHPC had the capability to handle mega hydropower projects in the state.
As a result, today NHPC has established strong footprints in the development of hydropower in Arunachal Pradesh.
Speaking on the occasion, Abhay Kumar Singh stated that he had made a genuine effort in the book to describe his journey from his very early life until his tenure as CMD of NHPC so that the younger generation could learn important lessons on how one can contribute meaningfully to the betterment of one’s organisation.
Kashi Singh Airy recalled the challenging period in Uttarakhand when there were widespread protests against hydropower projects.
He stated that it was A. K. Singh who amicably resolved various issues and concerns enabling NHPC to successfully execute the projects and move forward with development initiatives.
Smt. Sudha Singh shared that she feels fortunate to have accompanied her husband throughout the difficult phases of his career which enabled him to perform with greater dedication and confidence ultimately contributing to the success and growth of NHPC.
