Assembly Election Results 2026 Live: TMC Alleges Violence in Bengal as BJP Denies; States Move Towards Government Formation

The Assembly Election Results 2026 have triggered political tensions in West Bengal, with the Trinamool Congress (TMC) alleging post-poll violence and vandalism of party offices across several districts. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), however, has denied any involvement in the incidents.
Reports of arson and damage to TMC offices emerged from multiple locations, including Tollygunge, Baruipur, Kamarhati, Baranagar, Baharampur, Howrah, and Kasba. Police have launched investigations into the incidents as political blame games intensify in the aftermath of the results.
States Enter Government Formation Phase
As the results settle, key states including West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala have entered the government formation stage, marking a major political shift. Incumbent Chief Ministers Mamata Banerjee, M.K. Stalin, and Pinarayi Vijayan are set to exit office following electoral defeats.
In West Bengal, the BJP is poised to form its first government after a landslide victory, ending the TMC’s 15-year rule. The party secured over 200 seats, comfortably crossing the majority mark.
Major Political Upsets Across States
Tamil Nadu witnessed a historic breakthrough by actor-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), which emerged as the single-largest party with 108 seats, reshaping the state’s traditional political landscape.
In Kerala, the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) returned to power, while the Left Democratic Front (LDF) suffered a major defeat, marking the first time since 1977 that Left parties are not in power in any Indian state.
Meanwhile, the BJP retained Assam for a third consecutive term and continues to be part of the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in Puducherry.
TMC Responds to Defeat
Following the results, TMC leader Mahua Moitra acknowledged the electoral verdict, stating that her party respects the will of the people.
“The will of the people is supreme. If Bengal wanted BJP, then Bengal has got BJP. We respect that,” she said, adding that the party would continue to fight for its principles.
Despite the defeat, TMC leaders asserted that they would remain politically active and continue to represent their supporters.
Political Landscape Undergoes Major Shift
The 2026 Assembly elections have significantly altered India’s political landscape, with new players emerging, established parties facing setbacks, and shifts in voter sentiment across multiple states.
As government formation begins, attention will now turn to leadership decisions, alliance negotiations, and policy priorities in the newly elected administrations.
