Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma steps down after BJP win new Government formation begins

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma resigned along with his cabinet, paving the way for the formation of a new government in the state following the Assembly election results.
The BJP-led NDA secured a decisive mandate, winning 102 seats in the 126-member Assembly. Elections were held on April 9, with counting completed on May 4.
According to officials, Sarma submitted his resignation to Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya at Lok Bhawan in Guwahati. The Governor accepted the resignation and requested him to continue as caretaker Chief Minister until the new government is sworn in.
Speaking to reporters, Sarma said the oath-taking ceremony is expected to take place after May 11. He added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been invited to attend the event.
The new Chief Minister of Assam will be chosen at a meeting of the BJP legislature party in the presence of central observers.
