AAP leader injured in exchange of fire

An Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader was injured during an exchange of gunfire with his ex-cop neighbour over a dispute related to parking in Amritsar, police said on Thursday. Another person present at the scene was also hit by a bullet, they said.
Jaipal Singh Bau, in-charge of Ward No 42 of the Amritsar Municipal Corporation, was admitted to a private hospital in critical condition after sustaining bullet injuries and had to undergo emergency surgery.
Earlier deemed critical, doctors informed that Bau is now out of danger.
Police stated that Bau had been involved in an ongoing dispute with his neighbour, former policeman Tajinderpal Singh, reportedly over car parking issues for the past several months.
According to police, an argument between the two turned violent on Thursday, leading to a physical scuffle and exchange of gunfire.
Singh sustained some injuries due to the scuffle.
Bau sustained injuries during the firing, and another person at the spot was also hit by a bullet.
Both parties involved in the incident are currently receiving treatment and will be arrested after being discharged, police said.
Bau is considered close to AAP MLA from Amritsar South, Inderbir Singh Nijjar.
