32-year-old man dies after assault by co-passengers at Shahdara railway station

A 32-year-old man allegedly died after being assaulted by fellow passengers while trying to board the Yoga Express at Shahdara railway station in East Delhi on Saturday, police said.
The incident occurred on Platform No.3, where an argument reportedly broke out among passengers amid a rush to board the train. Police said they received information about the altercation at the Old Delhi Railway Station Police Station, after which an investigating officer was immediately dispatched to the spot.
The deceased was identified as Pankaj Dhama, a resident of Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh. Preliminary investigation revealed that Dhama was allegedly assaulted by co-passengers, who punched and kicked him during the altercation. Police said the injured man was rushed to Guru Tej Bahadur (GTB) Hospital for treatment. However, he was declared dead on arrival.
A senior police officer said a medico-legal case (MLC) has been registered and legal proceedings have been initiated under Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and Section 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Police have launched an investigation to identify and apprehend those involved in the assault. CCTV footage from the railway station is being examined, while eyewitnesses are being questioned to establish the sequence of events and identify the accused.
Officials said efforts are underway to trace those responsible for the assault. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
