2 Killed, 7 injured as severe storm and heavy rain batter in UP

At least 2 people were killed and seven others injured after a severe storm accompanied by heavy rain and lightning struck Uttar Pradesh’s Jalaun district on Thursday night, officials said.
According to the district administration, the storm also caused the death of 23 animals and partially damaged 45 houses across affected areas.
The deceased were identified as Sukhdevi, a resident of Umrar Kheda locality in Orai, and Moolchand from Bajida village under the Kotwali area. Authorities said financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh each has been initiated for the families of the victims under the government relief policy.
Officials added that relief assistance worth over Rs 12.88 lakh has been proposed for affected families in the district.
District Magistrate Rajesh Kumar Pandey and Superintendent of Police Vinay Kumar Singh monitored relief and rescue operations throughout the night in both rural and urban areas.
The district magistrate inspected government medical facilities and directed officials to ensure uninterrupted emergency services, adequate medicines, electricity backup and sufficient manpower for treatment and relief operations.
Authorities said several electricity poles and power lines were damaged during the storm, and restoration work is being carried out on a war footing.
The administration stated that the situation in the district remains under control while relief and rehabilitation efforts continue in affected areas.
