A youth climbed a tower located at Polytechnic Square in Bhopal, causing panic among onlookers.
The youth, later identified as Vinod Kumar Teji, was seen at a height of about 80 feet. Alarmed by the situation, people immediately contacted the police, who, in turn, called the Municipal Corporation team for assistance.
Police Station In-charge Ghumendra Singh engaged with the young man via a microphone.
The man revealed that he had climbed the tower with the intent of committing suicide due to financial distress caused by harassment from his employer.
He explained that the owner of the company where he worked as a private guard had not paid him his salary of Rs 16,000 for the past two months, leaving him in a dire financial situation. After receiving counseling and assurance from the authorities, the young man agreed to descend from the tower in about 15 minutes.
The Municipal Corporation team then used a lift to safely bring him down.
ACP Anita Prabha Sharma mentioned that the police would investigate the situation further by contacting the employer. If it was found that the salary had indeed been withheld, steps would be taken to ensure the man received the payment.
As the incident unfolded, a large crowd gathered at the scene, with many people filming the event on their phones. Fortunately, the young man came down safely after the intervention of the police and Municipal Corporation team, averting a tragic outcome.
