To strengthen democracy and increase voter turnout ahead of the Delhi assembly elections, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has ordered various eateries, cinema halls, and food courts among other places to offer ‘democracy discounts’ for five days to voters to boost participation, especially of the youth and first time voters.
This massive 25 per cent discount is valid on many places in the posh south Delhi locality following an order by Deputy Commissioner of MCD’s South zone Badal Kumar. He said that the initiative aims to bring public to participate in the festival of democracy and help increase voter turnout in the upcoming Delhi assembly polls.
“We aim to give these discounts so that people can vote and participate in these Delhi assembly elections in larger number. Moreover, this will also provide an added incentive for young and first time voters so that they can also be more motivated to vote and help choose the right candidates,” he said.
He informed that for motivating the citizens, as of now, 47 establishments have conveyed that from February 5 to February 9, democracy discount of 25 per cent on food items will be offered to the voters in south zone of the civic body.
Voters can head straight to eateries like Gola Sizzler’s, Social Saket, Beer Café, Perch Wine and Bar, Dhaba Estd 1986, Si-Bang Bakery, and Delhi Café Heights located in DLF Avenue Mall in Saket, where they can avail discount of 25 per cent on food and beverages, after voting.
Not just eateries, even in places like cinema hall where food charges are exorbitantly high, voters can avail the ‘democracy discount’ in Cinepolis Cinema Hall, located in DLF Avenue Mall, on food and beverages.
In the food court of one of most prominent malls, Select City Walk Mall in Saket, Masala Trail, Tacobell, KFC, Coco Curry, Swarna Bhawan, Sassy Begam and Pind Balluchi, voters can also avail the massive discounts for five days.
“Further, establishments like Zehra Restraurant and Turant Take Away in PVR ANupam Market in Saket, Essex Farm located at Sri Aurobindo Marg and Moti Sweets at Maviya Nagar Market will also offer such discounts in a bid to woo public in turning more and more for voting in elections,” a senior officer of the civic body stated.
Moreover, voters can also go to Suribachi restaurant, Canvas V, Ivory, and Be-Young at Panchshila Rendezvous complex at Maharishi Dayanand Marg to avail such attractive offer. “Gola Sizzlers, Social Ambience Mall, and Sagar Ratna and Bikanervala in the food court of Ambience Mall in Vasant Kunj is also offering the democracy discount. We hope that people will use these offers,” an officer said.
Additionally, upscale eateries like Deza Bro, Nik Bakers, Chungwa, Moti Mahal Deluxe, Bella Chao, Diva,and Blue Tokai, at Greater kailash II, M-Block market will also give the ‘democracy discount’. People can also visit Clarigious in Chandan Market at Greater Kailash II, and Chandra Sweets at Alaknanda Market and Maatara in Market no-2 at CR Park are also among the 47 establishments.
Voters can also visit Sanjha Chulha,and Nukkad in Kailash Colony Market, Social Nehru Place in Epicura Mall in Nehry Place, Evergreen Sweets and Veg Gulati in Green park Market, and Rajinder ka Dhaba in Kamal Cinema Market in Safdarjung Enclave.
Bikaner Misthan, South Se and Chicken N Salsa located on Main MB road in Saket are also in the list. It also includes Karnatka Restaurant at IGNOU road in Saidulajab and Sky High, Limitless and Coba restaurant in Vasant Sq Mall in Vasant Kinj and Dramz, Rooh and Qla in Mehrauli.
