Amid political attacks and counter-attacks in the run-up to the Delhi Assembly election, Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party distributed gold chains, gold chains, blankets and sarees for votes in two Delhi colonies and appealed to the national capital's voters not to “sell” their votes under any circumstances.
Addressing a press conference, Kejriwal also urged people to not vote for any AAP candidate if they are found distributing money for vote. “We are not here to win or lose elections; we are here to change the country,” the AAP chief said. “I appeal to the public to take everything they are distributing but don't sell your vote. Don't vote for anyone who distributes money, jackets, blankets, etc,” Kejriwal said in his ‘appeal while emphasizing that a vote is "more valuable than a diamond.
In a sharp response, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari condemned Kejriwal’s statement implying that Delhi residents are ‘sellouts, saying AAP chief has lost his mental balance. "Today we heard Kejriwal and the conclusion I have reached is that he has lost mental stability. He is frequently abusing Delhi. Why does this situation arise? It's because when you don't do any work," he said. Delhi BJP Spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor has said that Kejriwal seems to have lost his political confidence and mental balance too. In a post on X, Kapoor urged Bhardwaj to form a panel of Delhi Government’s LNJP Hospital to check up Kejriwal and advise him medicines & rest especially for cough which he has caught again.
Kejriwal further alleged that BJP leaders boasted about their plans to “buy” votes of Delhi's electorate by distributing cash and other things. We have got to know that they (BJP) have started to distribute gold chains to the public now. They have done this in two colonies. Their leaders are openly saying that they will buy the votes of the people of Delhi. So, their leaders should explain where the public's money, saris, blankets, and other items have gone. The people are asking them,” he said.
Kejriwal pointed out that from the top the ‘Gaali-Galoch Party’ sent Rs10,000 to distribute, but their leaders, being sure that they would lose, decided to profit instead. They kept Rs 9,000 for themselves and distributed only Rs 1,000 to the people. As this truth emerges, the public is outraged. Wherever leaders of the ‘Gaali-Galoch Party’ go, people confront them, saying, “Give us the money you kept first, then speak.”
In a post on X, Kejriwal referred to the BJP as a "slangs party", doubling down on his charge that the BJP had no agenda for Delhi, but was only bent on abusing the AAP leader."Now they have sent their leaders gold chains to distribute among voters. But they are not distributing them. Those going to their offices and creating an issue are being given the chains to silence them. If you want the chain too, go and get it from their offices," he said.
