Jharkhand is also on alert regarding the Chinese virus HMPV. Regarding this, the State Health Minister Irfan Ansari said that Jharkhand under the leadership of Chief Minister Hemant Soren is fully prepared to deal with any health emergency.
Ansari said that at present, there is no immediate concern regarding the Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) virus, as it does not pose an immediate threat to the population. The state government has made adequate preparations and arrangements to deal with any potential health challenge and testing for HMPV infection will start in RIMS within two to three days.
The Minister also said that being a doctor, I am closely monitoring the situation through all available channels and maintaining regular communication with the Union Health Ministry. "At present, we have not received any formal communication from the central health authorities regarding any alarm. I have directed the Secretary of the Department to convene a meeting with civil surgeons to assess the current level of preparedness across the state," he added.
Ansari also said that I assure the public that we have all the necessary arrangements in place and there is no immediate cause for concern. "However, given the ongoing winter season, it is especially important to take extra precautions. This is especially important for persons below the age of 5 and those above the age of 70, as during this time they are more vulnerable to health risks," he added.
The Minister said that we strongly advise everyone to stay informed, follow health guidelines and take preventive measures to protect themselves and their loved ones. The state government is fully committed to safeguarding the health and well-being of all citizens and will continue to take proactive steps to deal with any emerging health challenges, he added.
Ansari said that the process of procuring testing kits from the market has also begun. "There is a plan to start testing at MGMCH, Jamshedpur as well. The health department has assured that the state is fully prepared to deal with any situation," he added.
On the occasion, RIMS Microbiology Department Head Prof. Dr. Manoj Kumar said that this virus is not fatal, but vigilance is necessary. He has advised people to wear masks. Preparations are being made to start testing for HMPV infection at RIMS. Dr. Manoj Kumar said that the machine is available, but the testing kit is awaited. These kits are being ordered from NIV Pune. A letter has been sent for this. Testing facilities will start at RIMS soon, he added.
