The Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) has uncovered a clandestine laboratory producing MDMA, a psychotropic drug, in a remote area near Kharkheda village under Garoth tehsil. The lab was discovered in an orange orchard and had the capacity to manufacture over 50 kg of MDMA powder per month, officials revealed on Tuesday.
Acting on a tip-off, a CBN team raided the site, located in an isolated area without an approach road. The officials reached the premises on foot and discovered a makeshift structure within the orchard housing the laboratory.
During the operation, the team recovered 80.96 kg and 7.5 litres of various chemicals, including acetone, toluene, hydrochloric acid, sodium sulphate, sodium carbonate, sulphuric acid, bromine water, and ethanol. These substances are commonly used in the production of MDMA. Additionally, equipment such as a UV controller, vacuum oven, weighing scales, test tubes, and funnels was seized.
Following the raid, one individual was arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. During interrogation, the accused disclosed that more chemicals essential for the production of MDMA were buried in a nearby field. Upon excavation, officials retrieved the concealed contraband.
