Uttar Pradesh man regrets arranging wife’s marriage with lover; begs for her return

Thursday, 03 April 2025 | Biswajeet Banerjee | Lucknow

In a bizarre sequence of events that could rival any Bollywood drama, a man from Uttar Pradesh, Babloo, is now pleading for the return of his wife, Radhika, just days after he personally arranged her marriage to her lover, Vikas.

What was initially seen as a progressive and unconventional resolution to a love triangle has now turned into a spectacle that has left the entire village bewildered.

The unusual saga began on March 25, when Babloo, fearing the worst after reading crime stories about love affairs turning violent, decided to take what he believed to be the safest route. Instead of engaging in confrontation, he chose to be a ‘modern’ and understanding husband. He went to temple wrote a divorce on a piece of paper and then allowed marriage of her wife with lover. He even stood as a witness when Radhika married Vikas in a temple.

“I thought I was doing the right thing,” Babloo recalled, shaking his head in disbelief at his own decision. “I wanted to avoid any trouble, and I believed Radhika would be happier with Vikas.”

However, Babloo’s newfound independence did not last long. Just three days after Radhika left, he turned up at Vikas’s home, pleading for her return. His reason? Parenting their two children-aged seven and two-alone proved far more difficult than he had imagined.

“I was wrong. I thought I could handle the children, but it’s impossible. They keep crying for their mother. And to be honest, I miss her too,” he admitted. His dramatic change of heart has left the villagers both confused and amused.

“This is the strangest thing I have ever seen,” said 65-year-old Ram Charan, a village elder. “One day, he is giving his wife away, and the next, he is taking her back. What kind of marriage system is this?”

Kanta Devi, a neighbour who attended the temple wedding, shook her head in exasperation. “We all thought Babloo was being so forward-thinking. Now, it looks like he just panicked and made a mess of everything.”

Another villager, Mahesh Yadav, could not hide his amusement. “Who does that? We are still trying to understand what was going on in his head. One moment, he is celebrating their marriage, and the next, he is crying outside Vikas’s house.” Radhika, initially reluctant to return, was eventually convinced by Vikas’s mother, Gayatri.

“We had no choice but to let her go back. Those kids-how could we say no?” Gayatri sighed. “I never agreed to that marriage in the first place, but Babloo was being too stubborn. Now he realises  his mistake.”

Now, Babloo and Radhika are reportedly living together at an undisclosed location, while Vikas, stunned by the unexpected turn of events, has left the village in search of work.

As for Babloo, he has learned the hard way that letting go of a marriage is easy, but holding a family together takes much more effort.
