A day after the Election Commission of India (ECI) offered clarifications regarding duplication of Votes' ID card numbers, saying duplication did not necessarily mean fake ID cards.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) mounted fresh attack on the ECI asking it to accept its mistake and take corrective measures or face more embarrassments.

TMC leaders Derek O' Brien, said that the ECI should accept the alleged "EPIC scam" related to Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) within 24 hours or face more embarrassment on Tuesday when the TMCF would release certain documents. He was accompanied by Kirti Azad and Sagarika Ghose too.

The TMC leaders rolled out a list showing about 128 instances of two voters in Bengal and Haryana having the same EPIC number. They showed a third instance where three voters had the same EPIC number. All the 129 instances were allegedly from Raninagar constituency in Bengal and Barwala in Haryana.

Saying that most of the instances shown were from the States ruled by the BJP, Derek said "we want only residents of a state to vote in that state. Only voters of Bengal vote in Bengal. People will be sneaked in from other states to vote."

Referring to the 'Epic Scam' the TMC leader said that the ECI had only admitted to the error in the electoral rolls but not accepted them.

"Limited appreciation of the EC. I say limited because EC is admitting the error but not accepting the error," he said, warning, "in the next 24 hours, we humbly ask the EC to also accept the error. If not, we will share a document at 9 am on Tuesday morning."

He also asked Commission to start and inquiry into the "scam" and find out "who in the BJP is the mastermind," behind. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had earlier slammed the BJP Government for manipulating the ECI and influencing the Chief Election Commissioners in inserting fake names in the electoral rolls to influence the elections.

Claiming success in catching the "fraud" where the "other leaders from Haryana or Delhi failed" she said how, "there are several people who are complaining that duplicate names from Haryana or UP are appearing in their EPIC card numbers," adding this was a ploy to rig elections.

"They did this in Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Maharashtra and Delhi. The leaders there could not catch the trick of inserting the names of fake voters, but we have been able to catch their trick and we have directed the officials from the DMs and BDOs to the party workers and local leaders to start scrutinizing the electoral rolls and catch the fake voters so that the BJP cannot bring in voters from Bihar, UP and Haryana to vote in Bengal," Banerjee said instituting a committee led by senior party leaders to start door-to-door scrutiny of the electoral rolls.

The TMC leadership have been conducting door to door scrutiny of voters' lists in the State for the past several days.
