Navratri — a rising tide of devotion and celebration

In recent years, the celebration of Navratri in Assam and the Northeast has grown manifold, with unprecedented fervor and cultural vibrancy.

Leading from the front is the ever-charismatic Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, whose deep-rooted pride in heritage and proactive governance has helped amplify the spiritual and communal resonance of the festival across the region.

From Guwahati to Imphal, the air pulses with drumbeats, vibrant processions, and the devotion of thousands who come together to celebrate Shakti — the divine feminine power.

As the Northeast embraces Navratri, the symbolic worship of Goddess Durga’s nine avatars — from Shailaputri to Siddhidatri — becomes a celebration of womanhood, strength, and unwavering courage. “Durga is not just a goddess; she is every woman who rises after every fall,” echoes a popular quote during the festivities, reflecting how the festival uplifts societal consciousness. Sanatan Dharma’s timeless teachings come alive during these nine nights — a period of introspection, discipline, and community bonding.  The spiritual undertone blends beautifully with cultural expressions, as locals don traditional attire, perform Garba, and offer prayers with unwavering faith.

“May Maa Durga illuminate your life with countless blessings of happiness, health, and success,” is more than a greeting — it is a collective aspiration.

Political and community leaders draw inspiration from the goddess’s virtues — valor, wisdom, compassion — to commit themselves afresh to the welfare of society. The message is clear: true power lies in service.

“Navratri teaches us that strength and grace can coexist — just like the trident and the lotus in Maa Durga’s hands.” As the Northeast dances to the rhythm of devotion, one thing is certain: Navratri is not just a celebration, it is a call to awaken the divine within us all.
