Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and former minister Aaditya Thackeray on Thursday urged Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis to stay or reduce the penalty for retired police families staying in police quarters, and to revive the proposal of building new police quarters for police personnel mooted by the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government.
Aaditya made the requests to the chief minister on behalf of the police personnel based in Mumbai, when he met the latter for the third time since the new MahaYuti government assumed office on December 5.
In a post put out on micro-blogging site “X”, Aaditya wrote: “Today we met with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis ji, raising a few very important issues with him”.
Aaditya said that the issues he raised with the chief minister included water access for all and housing for retired police personnel, and a request that a policy for the reduction of premiums on the conversion of collector land to freehold land be brought in at the earliest.
The Shiv Sena (UBT) leader said that the water-for-all policy brought in by then chief minister Uddhav Thackeray during the MVA government had ensured that every house in Mumbai would get water, irrespective of their legal status, as a right.
“The earlier unconstitutional regime of Eknath Shinde had given a ‘stay’ to this policy. We humbly requested that this policy be implemented again so that all Mumbaikars can benefit,” Aaditya wrote.
“We also requested that the penalty for retired police families staying in police quarters be stayed or reduced, and permanent homes should be provided for retired police personnel in Mumbai.
