With the joint efforts of the Eklavya Foundation and the Madhya Pradesh Council of Science and Technology, steps are being taken to strengthen science education in the Kesla block of the Narmadapuram district.
This initiative has received full support from the district administration as well. As a result, what used to be an after-school science activity for the children here, has been integrated into regular school hours this academic session. In 12 villages of Kesla, students from grades 6 to 8 conduct science experiments, investigate scientific questions, and create interesting models and toys with the support of Eklavya team members.
Science teachers are also getting involved, and the Eklavya team provides regular training sessions for them. This hands-on approach to learning science is different from the traditional method of teaching by writing questions and answers on the board.
Both students and teachers have embraced this approach, which has also boosted the morale of the teachers. Eklavya has provided sufficient science kits to the schools in these villages so that all students can engage in learning science through experimentation. Additionally, around 100 science-related books have been given to the schools to spark children's interest in the subject.
As part of this initiative, science fairs have been organized on school premises for the past few months. The children present their experiments and understanding of scientific concepts at these fairs, which not only boosts their confidence but also strengthens the bond between the school and the community. Parents are specially invited to attend these fairs, where they can see and appreciate their children's work, raising awareness of science within the community.
On September 14, a science fair was organized in the village of Dandiwada in the Kesla block, where children simplified some complex scientific concepts through very easy, low-cost and interesting experiments. Whether explaining digestion, flow of electric current, or fun experiments related to surface tension, adhesion and cohesion forces of water, everyone who attended the fair experienced science firsthand and encouraged the children involved.
Special guests at the event included Vikas Shende and Dr. Sunil Garg from the Madhya Pradesh Council of Science and Technology, and Manoj Nigam, a senior member of the Eklavya Foundation.
