In a bid to improve connectivity in rural and densely populated areas, the Uttar Pradesh government is prioritising the construction of high-quality roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
Leveraging full depth reclamation (FDR) technology, the state has not only enhanced road infrastructure, but also saved an impressive Rs 2,500 crore, setting a benchmark for cost-effective and sustainable development, officials said here on Saturday.
The government emphasises that better connectivity not only ensures access to essential resources in rural areas but also facilitates economic and social progress, they said.
Several concrete steps taken by the Yogi administration are proving instrumental in driving rural development, officials said.
Working in close coordination with the Central government to accelerate development across the state, the Yogi government is formulating an action plan to connect as many inhabited areas as possible under PMGSY.
Proposals are being fast-tracked to identify and address regions with high population density and inadequate connectivity, underscoring the administration’s commitment to inclusive growth.
The state government is making every effort to ensure that all roads constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) in rural and densely populated areas adopt FDR technology. This innovative approach not only enhances road quality, but also significantly reduces construction costs, with savings amounting to Rs 2,500 crore so far, officials said.
The state plans to share this achievement with the Central government to secure additional funding for future projects. Ensuring road quality remains a top priority for the Yogi government, with strict adherence to prescribed standards through regular inspections and monitoring, they said.
To further improve construction outcomes, workshops are being planned for contractors to familiarise them with FDR technology and best practices for maintaining high standards.
The Rural Engineering department has been tasked with coordinating with other departments to maximise road construction in high-priority areas.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath believes that connecting densely populated regions with better roads will not only ease mobility, but also accelerate development, creating new opportunities for employment and business growth, officials said.
The Yogi Adityanath government is focused on creating a robust transport network that seamlessly connects rural and urban areas, recognising that roads are the backbone of development, they added.
Better road infrastructure not only improves access to education and healthcare, but also facilitates the marketing of agricultural products and boosts economic activities.
This initiative goes beyond mere road construction, with equal emphasis on regular repair and maintenance to ensure durability and long-term usability. These concerted efforts have significantly accelerated the pace of road construction in the state, transforming rural areas by improving access to essential services such as agriculture, education, and health, officials said.
Additionally, enhanced connectivity has stimulated economic growth, opening new opportunities for businesses and livelihoods in rural regions, they added.
