A flutter of colors graced the Tata Steel Zoological Park (TSZP) today as it proudly inaugurated its latest marvel—the Butterfly House. This state-of-the-art sanctuary celebrates the mesmerizing beauty and ecological significance of butterflies, offering visitors a unique chance to connect with nature.
The grand opening was marked by a heartfelt ceremony led by Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel. Joining him were Ritu Raj Sinha, Managing Director, Tata Steel Utilities and Infrastructure Services Limited, and Abhijit Avinash Nanoti, Managing Director, JCAPCPL, alongside a distinguished audience of dignitaries and employees.
Adding a personal touch to the event, Chanakya Chaudhary invited Malti Manjhi, a dedicated zoo keeper, to perform the ribbon-cutting. This gesture underscored Tata Steel’s ethos of inclusivity and its unwavering commitment to honoring the contributions of its employees.
The Butterfly House, completed in just eight months at a cost of ₹1.76 crore, is a blend of education, conservation, and visual delight. Spanning three distinct zones—an Education Centre, a Butterfly Breeding Area, and an Exhibit Area—it boasts a lush habitat for 41 butterfly species, with ongoing efforts to expand breeding programs.
Visitors to the new attraction can immerse themselves in the vibrant world of butterflies, marveling at species like the lime butterfly, common crow, and mottled emigrant. The facility also serves as a hub for ecological learning, shedding light on the butterfly life cycle and their critical role as pollinators and environmental indicators.
“Through the Butterfly House, we hope to not only conserve these delicate creatures but also inspire a deeper appreciation for biodiversity,” remarked a spokesperson from TSZP.
