In the light of the predetermined program by the union, the teachers of the affiliated universities under the Vinoba Bhave University staged a one-day dharna at the entrance of the Samrat Ashok Administrative Building on the issue of promotion and pension of teachers on Tuesday.

A large number of teachers from various postgraduate departments including local St Columba College, K.B. Women's College, Makham College as well as Chatra College, Chatra, J.J. College, Jhumari Tilaiya were present in the dharna. The patron of the dharna program was Dr. K.K. Gupta and the chief coordinator was Dr. Subodh Singh 'Shivgeet'.

The Secretary of the Teachers' Union of St Columba, Dr. Bhuvaneshwar Mahato, while expressing dissatisfaction over the working style of the university administration on the issue of promotion, called it necessary to constitute a University Service Commission at the state level.

Dr. Rajkumar Chaubey expressed anger at the attitude of the Registrar and demanded that the promotion file be sent to JPSC as soon as possible after completing the necessary procedures. Dr. Sarwar Ali said that the university administration deliberately keeps the file related to the interests of teachers pending but leaves no stone unturned in harassing the teachers.

Dr. Govind Jha expressed anger at the leave cut and accused the university administration of mortgaging the autonomy of the university. Dr. Pranitha, a chemistry teacher, expressed anger at the inaction of the university administration and said that the appointment of a new Vice Chancellor as soon as possible is essential.

Dr. Johnny Rufina Tirkey termed it unfortunate that the old pension scheme announced by the Chief Minister has not been implemented on the university teachers till now.  Dr. Subodh Singh 'Shivgeet', the main convener of the Dharna program, questioned the attitude of the state government bureaucrats and university officials and said that promotion and pension are ours.
